Trail Tails From the Current President...
August 2008

Thanks to Renee & Scott Boyette, Adele Smith, Linda Proud, and Bill & Kathy Cross who helped with the picnic. They did a great job!! It truly was a day filled with GOOD-friends, food and good times. The rain kept us under cover but didn't dampen our fun.  Our Director of Entertainment-Linda Proud-had us catching marbles with our toes, putting feed bags on the ponies while blindfolded, weaving ourselves together, and then racing across the finish line and the most challenging was turning the square over while we all stood on it. It brought new meaning to closeness for those that participated.  Ginny Gibbons moped up on the door prizes, but a little investigation discovered the tickets were really Joanne Pizzagalli's. Next time I'm having Joanne buy my tickets!!!   It was good to see Joanne out and about after her accident. We had fantastic attendance for the picnic.  Renee said she counted 52 people plus the children.  What a great way to celebrate the end of one riding season and the start of the next.

Now for the exciting news!!!   The bid for Prairie Pines parking lot, restrooms, boardwalk and other site improvements has been awarded to Compass Construction.  The bid was awarded June 20th and according to the contract they have 10 months to construct the site improvements.  Be sure and contract the county commissioners and tell them thank you!!  It's been a long wait but the end is in sight.

The August meeting will be the passing of the "reins".  Our new president Renee Boyette gets to pick them up and lead us down the trail.  She has lots of exciting ideas so be sure to come hear all about them.

 Happy Trails!

Help for flooded horses: The Lee Civic Center off Bayshore Road has opened as an emergency boarding facility for those affected by the flood waters. Contact Alta Moseley at the Lee Civic Center at (239) 543-8368. You must have a current coggins. Alta will discuss stall fees with you. Please bring your own bedding and stall supplies.

Our club is also asking members to email caloosasaddleclub@caloosasaddleclub.com if you have any dry stall or pasture our members could use while their places dry up. We have some members who are flooded out of their barn in Bonita. Please let us know if you can help.

Our next club meeting will be September 4th. Our speaker will be Scott Gregory from the Calusa Nature Center. See the Hittin the Trail page for more details.

New President's Message

Let me say thank you to all of the members who took the time to vote at the elections and for their vote of confidence in allowing me to serve the club for this upcoming year.  I am looking forward to working with all of you and hopefully have an opportunity to get to know all of the new members.

I am looking forward to having a good relationship with all of you and be able to join our efforts together in making the club even stronger this coming year.  I have plenty of ideas and want all members to have their input into this year’s events and outings.  It’s going to be a tight financial year for everyone and I need everyone’s input and great ideas on how to complete the tasks at hand.  I want all of you to support as many activities as you can, since participation is what makes all of our efforts and hard work worthwhile.

I also want to thank those involved in putting our BBQ together.  It was a great success!  My hats off to everyone who joined in on the fun.  Bill can cook a mean BBQ and the food was fabulous.  Linda Proud was the game wizard, as always.  She can come up with the wackiest stuff.  What a blast.  Again, thanks to all!

Please be sure to visit the website often.  I plan on adding programs, campouts and rides as the year goes by.  I want this year to be fun and different.  We have the opportunity to give back to our community and more, too.  Start rolling up your sleeves and come up with some great ideas that we can do locally on a monthly basis.  This gives folks a more diverse opportunity to enjoy the great Florida outdoors.  So, come on out and join us, and participate in good riding and fellowship!

 Happy Trails!

Renee
