June 2009 Trail Tails

You just never know!!!!  Our obstacle challenge was a resounding success.  We had 40 riders, some coming from Naples area, Palmdale and all parts of Lee County, it kept the ground crew hopping!!!

I can't thank enough all those who volunteered to help. Lori & Vera for the sign up booth. Charlotte, Barbara, Don, Kecia, & Aggie did the ground work-passing the sheets on to the judges, keeping the time on the riders, making sure the water bucket and flag were in place for the next rider and turning the compressor and ferret on and off.  Judges Kevin Poling, Lauren Merchant and Sunny Diver did a magnificent job.  It must be fun for them, cause Lauren & Sunny were judges for our first challenge and they willingly did it again.  The same can be said for the ground crew, they all willingly did it again and have volunteered to do it again-just as long as the weather is cooler.

It is lots of work, but barrels of fun.  Watching the horses approach the obstacles and their reaction could be down right hysterical.  Sometimes the easiest turned out to be the most challenging.  All in all it was an awesome day.

Thanks to all who helped and those who participated.  You made it the success.

This is also time for nominations for officers.  I certainly hope individuals will come forward to accept the office of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.

Our next club meeting will be June 4th. We will have nominations for the 2009-2010 officers. Please let us know if you or someone you know is interested in holding an office.

The May Obstacle Challenge  was a HUGE success! There were 40 riders coming from as far as Palmdale. The Obstacle Challenge committee would like to greatly thank all those that participated and especially those that volunteered to help!

Please check the Member Info page for information on important upcoming public meetings regarding Babcock Ranch. There is also information for a used tack sale on June 13th and Bits and Pieces Tack Shop off Bayshore Road.

The Southeastern Equestrian Trails Conference will be held in Gainesville, July 9-12. There will be a wealth of information about trails and dealing with government agencies. Check out www.setc2009@aol.com for more information.

For those of you who travel and ride in the forests and greenways, please be sure to carry your coggins on you when riding the forests and the greenways.  They are checking and will fine you $250. You should have your coggins on you anytime you haul or are riding your horse.

We hope everyone is enjoying their horse the best they can during these hot summer days. At least it's dry for now. Please let us know if you find a good place to ride or camp! We are always up for some exploring.

Hope to see everyone at the May meeting!

Stay Safe & Happy Trails to All!
