Give to a horse
rescue . . . without an
extra dollar out of your pocket!
When you make purchases from Jeffers or Country Supply, a percentage of your purchases can
be donated directly to Horse Protection of Florida. Each of these vendors has a charitable donation program that enables
HPAF to receive these monies directly, and it doesn't cost you anything.
When buying online or over the phone, please indicate HPAF as the charitable donation code.
HPAF appreciates your support!
Premarin and Prempro
Premarin stands for Pregnant Mares Urine and is the most prescribed drug
in this country.
Did you know that these hormone-replacement drugs are yielded from the urine of approximately
20,000 pregnant mares that are forced to stand in small box stalls for up to six months? Not only is cancer a potential
by-product of these drugs, but also the mares are inhumanely treated and an estimated 20,000 foals are born each
year that frequently end up at slaughter.
Wyeth Laboratories, the drug maker, is the parent company of several subsidiaries, including
Fort Dodge. Yes, the same company that produces equine vaccines and Quest ivermectin. Wyeth also produces
products such as Advil, Chap Stik, and Centrum vitamins.
Do you know any women that take Premarin or Prempro? You may wish to enlighten them
about the mare urine pills they are consuming!

For Your Information
During development of the Legislative Budget Requests for Fiscal
Year 2009-2010 all state agencies were asked to submit plans to reduce their annual operating budgets by 10 percent. This
action was taken as a result of shortfalls in statewide revenues. If approved by the Office of the Governor, the reductions
will be considered during the 2009 legislative session.
In order to reduce the Division of Recreation and Park’s
statewide expenditures by 10 percent, a spending reduction plan was developed which includes, among other measures, the temporary
closure of 19 state parks until the state’s economy improves and revenues return to normal levels. Temporarily closed
parks would be placed into a “caretaker” status until they can be re-opened. This plan includes FTE’s from
the affected parks to either remain as a temporary caretaker or to be transferred to another state park. The plan does not
include a reduction in FTE’s, however, it does include a reduction in OPSstaffing.
The 19 parks that have been
identified for temporary closure are:
oYellow River Marsh Preserve
State Park, St. Marks River State Park, Lake June-In-Winter Scrub State Park, Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve State Park, Constitution Convention Museum State Park, John Gorrie Museum State Park, Deer Lake State Park, Allen David Broussard Catfish Creek Preserve State Park, Tarkiln Bayou Preserve
State Park, Terra Ceia Preserve State Park, Letchworth-Love Mounds Archaeological State Park, Dunns Creek State Park, San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park, Windley Key Fossil
Reef Geological State Park, Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park, Dudley Farm Historic State Park, Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park, Florida Nature and Heritage Tourism Center,Cedar Key Museum State Park
In addition to the 19 parks listed above, the spending reduction plan
calls for the Division to return management of three state parks, which are not owned by the State of Florida, to their owners
for future management. While these FTE positions will be eliminated, the personnel will be reassigned to other parks.
The
three properties to be returned to their owners are: oThree Rivers
State Park (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers), Forest Capital Museum State Park (Taylor
County), Egmont Key State Park
(U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services)
