Tillis Hills is
always a great start to the camping season. Thursday afternoon the rigs steadily
pulled into the area for horse and tack drop off. Those of us who were lucky
enough to arrive early in the day on Thursday were fortunate to enjoy a temperate evening ride through the scattered oak and
pine tree forest. Trinda and I arrived back to base camp only to find my cell
phone full of messages. Upon calling home, my husband informed me that my six
pound Chihuahua
“Casper” had escaped his caretaker and made a mad dash for the streets of Fort Myers. He was lost and nowhere to be found. I then commandeered Trinda’s Dodge 3500 and drove home to reunite with my little runaway. My efforts proved fruitful and at 9:30am, the following
morning Casper was found with not a scratch on him. Not wanting to waste any precious riding time, I jumped into the truck and headed back. Upon my return, I was greeted with a crisp glass of chardonnay and cheese and crackers before another beautiful
evening ride.
The rest of the
weekend went remarkably well for most. Saturday night we all had a great time
story telling and gossiping over our traditional potluck dinner. There was an
eclectic mix of entrees and desserts brought by everyone. We enjoyed our meal
hosted at Mary’s “grand” new trailer instead of the clubhouse due to a beautiful wedding celebrated earlier
in the day and was continuing on into the evening.
Sunday’s final ride
was just as beautiful as the first. We had a great group of adventurous women
including our two newest members Carla and Joan. Carla’s husband Bob was
along for the ride in their brand new “tour” bus. He seemed very
content being a horse widower and offering his help when needed.
I am seriously looking
forward to an eventful, joyous, and harmonious Caloosa Saddle Club riding season.
P.S.
I believe I counted a majority of gaited horses on this trip!
